Description: Made in 1779, published in 1781. State: Fourth state of 4 Ref: LNP 32. signed in pencil on the back.

Artists and Engravers: Made by 'Cornelis Ploos van Amstel/Cornelis Brouwer' after 'Ludolf Bakhuizen'. Cornelis Ploos van Amstel (1726-1798) was active as merchant in Amsterdam. He was an avid collector of art and invented a method of making prints after drawings from his own collection. Ludolf Backhuysen (1631-1708) was a Dutch painter and draftsman. He was strongly influenced by Willem van de Velde de Jonge. He painted harbour, marine scenes and ships. He is famous for his depictions of stormy seas and shipwrecks. He painted many scenes of Dutch maritime / marine history.
