Description: Source unknown, to be determined. State: Only state. Ref: Hollstein 43. Interesting portrait of the former gunner "Frere Jacques", who travelled through Europe, performing kidneystone removal operations.

Artists and Engravers: Made by 'Jacob Gole' after 'Mattijs Pool'. Jacob Gole (ca. 1660-1737) belonged to a group of French refugees who came to the Northern Netherlands in the end of the 17th. Century. He worked in close collaboration with Cornelis Dusart and specialized in the making of mezzotints.  Mattys Pool (1670-1732) worked as a printmaker/publisher in Amsterdam. He travelled to France.

Condition: Fair, given age. Ample margins, some restored tears (one running into plate below image) and small hole in left paper edges, not effecting image. Light soiling. Remains of manuscript writing at bottom right. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.
