Artists and Engravers: Made by 'Cornelis Ploos van Amstel' after 'Anthony van Dyck'. Cornelis Ploos van Amstel (1726-1798) was active as merchant in Amsterdam. He was an avid collector of art and invented a method of making prints after drawings from his own collection. Anthony Van Dyck (1599-1641) was a Flemish Baroque artist who became the leading court painter in England after enjoying great succes in Italy and Flanders.
