Artists and Engravers: Made by 'Claude Henry Watelet' after own design. Claude Henry Watelet (French; 1718-1786) was a wealthy collector, amateur painter, well-respected etcher, writer on the arts and a connoisseur of gardens. He introduced the English landscape garden to France, as the jardin Anglois. Watelet was at the center of the French art world of his time. From 1767 Rembrandt's copper etching plates were preserved in Watelet's collection, which he worked up and re-published.
