Artists and Engravers: Made by 'Jurriaan Cootwijk' after 'Rembrandt van Rijn'. Jurriaan Cootwijk / Cootwyck (1714-1798) was a Dutch engraver, active in Amsterdam. He worked for Ploos van Amstel and Christiaan Josi. Rembrandt van Rijn (1606-1669) is perhaps the most famous dutch artist from the Golden Age. He started working in Leiden around 1626 and moved around 1630 to Amsterdam. There he spent the rest of his life painting, drawing and making prints. His graphic oeuvre is large (over 300 prints) and very sought after. Already during his lifetime, Rembrandt's etchings were avidly collected.
