Description: From a set with depictions of vanity with poetry by Samuel Ampzing. Ref: Hollstein 121 Excessive drinking.

Artists and Engravers: Made by 'Jan van de Velde' after an anonymous artist. Jan van de Velde II (1593-1641) came from the southern Netherlands as a fugitive around 1600 to the Netherlands. His father was a writingmaster and Jan trained as an etcher. He produced many highly important series of landscape prints.

Subject: Antique Master Print, titled: 'De kroeg is mijne kerk.' - A man looking down a jug ("kannenkijker"), a pitcher.

Condition: Good, given age. Large margins, some soiling. Small tear in lower margin, consolidated with acid free tape, not affectin image. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.
