Artists and Engravers: Made by 'Jacob Gole' after 'Cornelis Dusart'. Jacob Gole (ca. 1660-1737) belonged to a group of French refugees who came to the Northern Netherlands in the end of the 17th. Century. He worked in close collaboartion with Cornelis Dusart and specialized in the making of mezzotints. Cornelis Dusart (1660-1704) was a pupil of Adriaen van Ostade. He specialized in highly finished works of art on paper with genre subject matter. Dusart made many prints in mezzotint, which ressemble his washed pen drawings.
Subject: Antique Master Print, titled: 'De Man most Barbieren.' - ('The man must visit the barber') A female barber shaving a man. She holds his nose while carefully shaving his chin. Her shaving instruments hang on a pouch at her side. A lizard hangs from the ceiling.
Condition: Very good, given age. Some faint foxing in the margins, a small stain just above the image. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.
