Description: Source unknown, to be determined. State: Only state. Ref: Winkler F37:47, nrs. 3, 8, 10, 11, 12. Rare prints, Winkler knew only 2 other sets.

Artists and Engravers: Made by 'Johan Michael Mettenleiter' after own design. Johan Michael Mettenleiter (German; 1765-1853) came from a very artistic family in Schwaben. He was involved in lithography as early as 1808. An important artist in bookillustration in Munich in the early 19th. Century.

Subject: 5 Antique master prints, titled: 'Ermorderung der Kinder Ciodomirs; Tassilo's Verurtheilung durch Carl den Grossen; Teutberga besteht die Wasserprobe; Winfried zerstort die heiligen Haine; Carl der Dicke wird des Recihs entsetzt.' - ('The children of Chlodomer murdered; The judgement of Tassilo by Charlemagne; Teutberga submits to the ordeal of boiling water; Bonifatius felling the Holy oak; Charles the Fat deposed. 5 Scenes from early German history.

Condition: Very good, given age. Uncut examples. Right margin edges slightly browned. Remains of binding/attachment to carrier to the rear. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.
