Description: Very rare, from a set of maidens from Noord Holland. State: First state of 3 Ref: H. 57 Edam.

Artists and Engravers: Made by 'Gillis van Scheyndel' after 'Willem Buytewech'. Gillis / Aegidius / Georg van Scheyndel / Scheijndel / Scheindel / Schendel (c. 1595-c. 1662) was a Dutch Golden Age etcher and designer. He worked in Amsterdam. His work is close akin to the prints of Jacques Callot and Jan van de Velde II. Willem Buytewech (ca. 1591-1624) originated from Rotterdam. He specialised in genre pieces and landscapes.

Condition: Good, given age. Thread margins, black stain in upper left. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.
