Description: This plate was later published as part of: 'Tafereelen uit het burgelijke leven van de Hollanders in de achttiende eeuw door Cornelis Troost.', (Transl.: Scenes from the daily life of the citizens of Holland in the 18th c. by Cornelis Troost.), published by E. Maaskamp, Amsterdam, 1811. This magnificent and very scarse series of 32 scenes show satiric views in Holland, part of present day The Netherlands. State: First state of 2. Ref: Niemeijer 708T/VerHuell XXXIII. Provenance: * Very nice proof impression before lettering.

Artists and Engravers: Made by 'Jakob Houbraken' after 'Cornelis Troost'. Jakob Houbraken (1698-1780) was a very active and popular engraver in his day. He made a vast number of portraits and other prints. Cornelis Troost (1696-1750) was an 18th-century actor and painter from Amsterdam. He gave up his acting career for painting in 1723 when he became the pupil of Arnold Boonen.
