Description: Undescribed print of which there is another example in the collection of the Rijksmuseum Amsterdam. This one is printed on blue paper and reworked with white chalk. Because of the great similarities with the other prints and selfportraits by Jelgerhuis, we feel confident in ascribing this print to him. He was awarded the gold medal by the Bataafsch Genootschap in 1774 and it is entirely possible that Jelgerhuis made this selfportrait with the medal after this event.. State: only state. Artists and Engravers: Made by Rienk Jelgerhuis (ascribed to). Rienk Jelgerhuis (1729-1806) was an important portrait artist, who came from Leeuwarden in Friesland. He later worked in Amsterdam. He wrote a treatise on the use of perspective and also invented special spectacles for drawing.
