Artists and Engravers: Made by 'Ludolf Backhuizen' after own design. Ludolf Backhuysen (1631-1708) originated from Embden. He was apupil of Everdingen and Dubbels. and strongly influenced by Willem van de Velde de Jonge. He painted harbour, marine scenes and ships. He is famous for his depictions of stormy seas and shipwrecks. He painted many scenes of Dutch maritime / marine history.
