Artists and Engravers: Made by 'Bernard Picart' after 'Godfrey Kneller'. Bernard Picart (1673-1733) was a French painter and engraver. He received his art education from his father, Etienne (1632-1721), from Le Brun and Jouvenet at the Royal Academy. His talents developed rapidly: at the age of sixteen he gained honors at the Academy of Paris.He was born in Paris and died in Amsterdam. Sir Godfrey Kneller, 1st Baronet (born Gottfried Kniller; 1646-1723) was the leading portrait painter in England during the late 17th and early 18th centuries, and was court painter to English and British monarchs from Charles II to George I.
