Artists and Engravers: Made by 'George White' after 'Godfrey Kneller'. George White (ca. 1684-1732) was an important English portrait painter, drafsman, engraver and miniaturist. He was the son and student of Robert White. When his father died, he finished his engravings and was so succesful that he devoted himself to engraving, in particular the mezzotint. Sir Godfrey Kneller, 1st Baronet (born Gottfried Kniller; 1646-1723) was the leading portrait painter in England during the late 17th and early 18th centuries, and was court painter to English and British monarchs from Charles II to George I.
