Artists and Engravers: Made by 'Cornelis Ploos van Amstel' after 'Cornelis Troost'. Cornelis Ploos van Amstel (1726-1798) was active as merchant in Amsterdam. He was an avid collector of art and invented a method of making prints after drawings from his own collection. Cornelis Troost (1696-1750) was an 18th-century actor and painter from Amsterdam. He gave up his acting career for painting in 1723 when he became the pupil of Arnold Boonen.
