Artists and Engravers: Made by N. Verkolje after G. Douw. Nikolaas Verkolje (Delft 1673-1746 Amsterdam) was a Dutch Golden Age painter and pioneer mezzotint engraver in the Netherlands. Gerard Dou (or Dow/Douw, 1613-1675) was a Dutch Golden Age painter, specialised in genre scenes and his candle-lit night scenes.
Subject: Antique print, untitled. A woman and her son at night, in an open window. The mother holds a mousetrap in the light of a candle.
Condition: Very good, given age. Margins cropped close to the platemark. Remains of attachment to carrier to the rear of the sheet. From the collections of Baron Isendoorn a Blois, Cannenburg castle (Lugt 2610) and Van Ekelen (not in Lugt). General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.
