Artists and Engravers: Made by 'Gerrit Groenewegen' after own design. Gerrit Groenewegen (1754-1826) was destined to become a ships'carpenter. When he lost a leg in an accident on the wharfe, he became a pupil of the Rotterdam based artist/engraver Robbert Muijs. Groenewegen's talent for drawing combined with his profound knowledge of ships produced high quality marine art.
Subject: Antique Master Print, titled: 'Verscheide soorten van Hollandse vaartuigen.' - Titleprint to the set of 1787 with the depiction of a "Heynst", an early Dutch sailing fishing vessel from South Holland and the waters of Zeeland. This is also sometimes known as a "Hengst" (Stallion), although the Heijnst might also be a variant of this.
Condition: Very good, given age. Small margins, two old vertical creases over the left and right sides of the image. A little soiled along the creases. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.
