Artists and Engravers: Made by 'Gerrit Groenewegen' after an anonymous artist. Gerrit Groenewegen (1754-1826) was destined to become a ships'carpenter. When he lost a leg in an accident on the wharfe, he became a pupil of the Rotterdam based artist/engraver Robbert Muijs. Groenewegen's talent for drawing combined with his profound knowledge of ships produced high quality marine art.
Subject: Antique Master Print, untitled. Rowingboats taking passengers to a sailing ship. A marine coastal scene with several ships. One of the ships is carrying the American (Stars and Stripes) flag.
Condition: Very good, given age. Margins cropped close to the platemark. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.
