Artists and Engravers: Made by 'Cornelis Ploos van Amstel' after 'Gerbrand van den Eeckhout'. Cornelis Ploos van Amstel (1726-1798) was active as merchant in Amsterdam. He was an avid collector of art and invented a method of making prints after drawings from his own collection. Gerbrand van den Eeckhout (1621-1674) was a Dutch Golden Age painter and a favourite student of Rembrandt. He was also an etcher and poet, as well as a collector and adviser on art.
