Artists and Engravers: Made by Antonio Tempesta after own design. Antonio Tempesta (ca. 1555-1630) was a Rome born artist, who specialised in etchings. His prints with hunting scenes, biblical matter etc. attracted great popularity in the early 17th. Century and were copied widely.
Subject: Antique print, titled: 'Attilius consul Romanus, Regulus, arcu Telo, hasta, iaculo, multa cum clade suorum ', The catching of a large African serpent by Marcus Atilius Regulus. A large military force, supported by two fire-breathing (?) war machines, attacks the huge serpent.
Condition: Good, no margins. Some browning and remnants of old hinges verso General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.
