Artists and Engravers: Made by 'Christiaan Josi' after 'Simon de Vlieger'. Christiaan Josi (1768-1828) was born in the Netherlands, but travelled to England. He became a famous artdealer and lublished many prints in the manner of Ploos van Amstel. Josi eventually bought the entire contents of the workshop of Ploos and republished what was left together with new printdrawings. Simon Jacobsz. de Vlieger (ca. 1601-1653) was a painter of marine landscapes and portraits and etcher. He worked in Delft and Amsterdam. He was a student of Willem van de Velde the elder and possibly Jan and Julius Porcellis. He is seen as the teacher of Willem van de velde the Younger, Jan van de Capelle and Hendrick Dubbels.
