Artists and Engravers: Made by 'Etienne Fessard' after 'Jacques Eustache de Seve'. Etienne Fessard (1714-1777) was a French engraver from Paris. He collaborated with the Comte de Caylus. Jacques Eustache de Seve (1742 - 1788) was the main artist commissioned by Buffon for his "Histoire Naturelle, Générale et Particulière" (1749-1760). He was one of the first artists to use complete scenes including landscape backgrounds, which influenced later natural history illustrators.

Subject: Antique Master Print, untitled. Allegory of artistic genius. Genius is portrayed as a reclining figure with a flame at the top of his head. He is surrounded by five putti, two of whom are painting, another holds a wreath over Genius' head.

Condition: Very good, given age. Ample margins. A crease in the lower margin. Margins very faintly soiled. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.

Size (in cm): The overall size is ca. 15 x 23.5 cm. The image size is ca. 7.4 x 12.5 cm.
