Artists and Engravers: Made by Philips Galle after Adria. d. Werdt. Adriaen de Weerdt (ca. 1510-1590). Philips Galle (1537-1612) was a Dutch engraver and draughtsman. He is mostly remembered for his engraved reproductions of paintings. Gerard de Jode (1509-1591).
Subject: 4 Antique prints, titled: 'Historia Ruth per Adrianum de Werdt in quatuor fol', full set of four engravings depicting the Bible book Ruth. 1) 'Orpha domum repetit patriam sorore relicta, Solaque com sola Ruth manet ecce socru' (Orpah leaves Naomi and Ruth). 2) Dum flavas in agro gaudet colligere spicas Ruth, forte affinis, venit in arua Booz' (Ruth in the fields of Boaz). 3) Ante pedes Boozi se Ruth sub veste recondit. Cumque illo in viridi gramine leta cubat' (Ruth on the threshing floor of Boaz). 4) Calceus exutus teste praesente senatu est, propinqui ut constet ius redemisse Boon' (Boaz conferring with the town elders).
Condition: A very nice set, good impressions on quality paper. Small stains in margins and image, top margins a little wrinkled. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.
