Description: Very refined wood engraving. Ref: H. 126 Botany.
Artists and Engravers: Made by 'Dirk van Gelder' after own design. Dirk van Gelder (1907-1990) was a Dutch draftsman and graphic artist, born in The Hague. He started as a lithographer in the style of Hoytema, and started etching when he received a set of etching tools for his birthday. He continued his education with Jules de Bruycker, where he increased his mastery of etching, and started wood engraving. Wood engraving proved to be his true medium, and he became one of the most important wood engravers of the twentieth century. He was one of the founding members of the Haagse Etsclub in 1984, with Minderman, Koene and Van Hagen.
