Artists and Engravers: Made by 'Thomas Rowlandson' after 'J. Nixon'. Thomas Rowlandson (1756-1827) was famous for his satyrical prints. His loose and quick way of working was ideal for the depiction of all kinds of daily scenes. He was one of the great British etchers of satyrical subjects.
Subject: Antique Master Print, titled: 'New invented Elastic Breeches.' - Satirical print showing two men standing on chairs attempting to pull up the very tight breeches of a stout man, who is lifted from the ground by their efforts. A stout woman enters from the right holding a pair of breeches under her arm.
