Artists and Engravers: Made by 'Jacob Matham' after 'Hendrick Goltzius'. Jacob Matham (1571 - 1631), of Haarlem, was a famous engraver and pen-draftsman. He was the stepson and pupil of painter and draftsman Hendrik Goltzius, and brother-in-law to engraver Simon van Poelenburgh, having married his sister, Marijtgen. Hendrick Goltzius (1558-1617) was a Dutch painter, draughtsman, printmaker and publisher. He was a student of Coornhert. In his early life he was mainly active as engraver. Around 1600 he also started painting.
