Artists and Engravers: Made by 'Samuel van Hoogstraten' after 'A. Blokland'. Samuel van Hoogstraten / Hoogstraeten (1627-1678) was an educated Dutch painter and engraver who originated from Dordrecht. He was a pupil of his father Dirk van Hoogstraten and Rembrandt (1642). He travelled extensively to ao. Vienna and London and later started an Academy in Dordrecht where he trained important students: G. Schalcken, A. Houbraken, A. de Gelder and C. Vermeulen.
