Artists and Engravers: Made by 'Lucas Kilian ' after own design. Lucas / Lukas Kilian (1579-1637) and Wolfgang Kilian (1581-1662) were German painters, designers and etcher/engravers from Augsburg of mostly religious subjects and portraits. Sons of the Silezian jeweler and engraver Bartholomaus Kilian, the first of a lineage of engravers and publishers. As their father died early on and his mother remarried with the Antwerp painter Dominique Kustos / Domenicus Custos / de Coster or Custodis (c. 1550-1612), they received much of their artistic training from him.
