Artists and engravers:Made by Benedict Piringer after Christian Wilhelm Dietricy. Benedict Piringer (1780-1826) was active in Paris and Vienna. Christian Wilhelm Ernst Dietrich (German; 1712-1774) was an art administrator and a highly collected artist in the 18th. and 19th. Century. His prints are very much in the taste of the 17th. Century. He was very competent in imitating many earlier artists, but never developed a style of his own. His engravings in the style of Van Ostade and Rembrandt, both in spirit and skill, are seen as his best work.
