Artists and Engravers: Made by 'Simon Frisius' after 'Jan van de Velde I'. Simon Frisius (1580-1629) was active as engraver and etcher. He has a very distintive style. Frisius can be seen as a transitional figure between Mannerism and later styles. Jan van de Velde the Elder (1568-1623), was a Dutch calligrapher, writing teacher, and engraver. He was the father of the engraver Jan van de Velde.
